The Search is on For Presidential Pooch
Well its a week after the election and election hang overs are slowly going away and the search is on for a hypoallergenic dog for the White House. The dog must be hypoallergenic as Obama's daughter has dog allergies. Personally many will miss the lovable Barney, Bush's terrier who became famous for biting White House reporter Jonathan Decker, you can view the video of the shocking attack on my website.
Most likely Obama's pick will be Golden Doodle, a cross between a golden retriever and a poodle. Its important to remember hypoallergenic does not mean allergy free, these are breeds that produce less dander. Precautions sometimes still need to be taken for people with severe dog allergies, such as keeping the dog in or out of certain rooms. This should not be a problem with a place as big as the White House.
Animal shelters are a great place to start looking for hypoallergenic dogs, do not assume only mutts can be found there. Many pure breeds for a variety of reasons are dropped off at animal shelters and need adopting. Its a great way to make your child happy with a dog while at the same time rescuing a dog from a shelter. Most of the time fees from animal shelters are between $50-$100 and cover all shots and neutering. A pretty good deal when you consider pet store prices of $250-$1000 not including neutering.
Whatever breed you decide to get its a good idea to be sure that your children are not allergic to dogs before bringing a new dog into the family or if you want to be safe go with a hypoallergenic breed. You do not want to have to take the dog back to a animal shelter because you were unaware of a child's dog allergies.
